The Kids of Durgapur

This blog is being created so that the children who live in the slums around Durgapur, West Bengal, India can share their stories with you.

My name is Parbati and I live in DSL Basti. My house is a mud house and will be broken by a bulldozer. I'm feeling very bad. Where will I go? I am growing big. So far no one has come to help. I'm hoping to get help from the center.

My name is Reba. When I was watching the house next to mine come down, I was feeling very bad. Where will we go? Who will help us? We're hoping the government will help, but they won't. I am in class 5 going to class 6. My studies have been hampered because of this.

My name is Dilip Das. I live in Durgapur. I like to fish. I go to sleep at 8:30 PM.
For breakfast, I eat bread and drink tea. There are eight people in my family.
My house is mud with a tile roof. We cook with wood on the ground. I have to chop wood for cooking. We don't have electricity or water. The government put one tap in our village for all.

My name is Lakhan. There are eight people in my family. I play hide and seek. I eat mostly potatoes, sometimes dahl. I go to sleep at 10:00PM. My neighbor has a TV. We don't have electricity, but he connects the TV to the street light. We watch action movies.
